There is something truly special about the energy at a REMO Repair Café. It’s a space where tools clatter, stories are swapped and every ay items get a second chance at life. Keeping valuable resources out of landfill while saving local households money.
Our latest Repair Café at REMO Eco Hub March was a brilliant demonstration of community sustainability in action.
Triumphs are the Workbench.
Our dedicated team of volunteer fixers, Mike, Mark and Stephen, had their work cut out for them, taking on a mix of domestic and internal hub challenges:
· The Paint Vibration Machine: In an exciting internal win, the team successfully fixed our industrial paint shaker, a vital piece of kit that keeps our RM Recycled Paint production line running smoothly!
· Karen’s Titan Vacuum: Perhaps the highlight of the morning was when local resident Karen bought in their Titan Vacuum Cleaner. It was bound for the landfill, but our fixers got to work and restored it to full working order!
· The Garden Thermometer: Diagnosed and returned to its owner, ready to be repaired when the replacement parts are available.
From Visitor to Volunteer in 24 hours.
The magic of the Repair Café isn’t just about fixing; it’s about connecting people. Karen was so inspired by the welcoming atmosphere that they signed up to volunteer on the spot! Less than 24 hours later, they were back at the hub helping Loz sort through donated textiles.
Why Repair Matters (And how you can get involved)
Supported by our ongoing National Lottery Fund expansion and help from Cambridge Carbon Footprint and Cambridge Repair Café Network, REMO is scaling up its repair, reuse and upcycling initiatives across Fenland. But to keep up with growing demands, we need more volunteer fixers!
Whether you are skilled in small electronics, woodwork, textiles, clockwork or general tinkering, giving just a few hours a month makes a huge difference!
